About DGA
- Members are encouraged to sign up for tournaments as soon
as possible but absolutely no later than fourteen days before
the tournament (four weeks for Mesquite). The tournament director
will post the foursomes and tee times on our website by the
Monday prior to the tournament.
- Special requests for early or late tee times or to play with
specific individuals will be honored when possible. Please remember,
however, that one of the purposes of our group is to meet and
make new friends within the dental profession.
- Guests (including non-dentists) are welcome. A guest may play
one tournament per year without becoming a member. Guests will
be eligible for individual and team prizes, based upon their
submitted handicap, but not for class prizes.
- Prizes (golf balls) will be awarded for low gross and low
net in two or three classes, depending on the number of players.
In addition, there will be K.P. and long drive prizes as well
as either team or individual flight prizes at each tournament.
The games we use are described in the book Great
Games for Golf written by Tom Newton that each DGA member
will receive at the first tournament.
- Handicaps will be adjusted for each tournament by the handicap
chairman. All DGA members are strongly encouraged to establish
an official USGA handicap. To encourage this, the DGA will
become an Associate Member of the Oregon Golf Association so
that we can issue Handicap indexes to our members.
- In order to minimize the workload of the handicap chairman,
all members are expected to post their own scores, either after
the round at the course you played, or on line at www.ghin.com.
Since we play for such high stakes (golf balls) it is important
that all scores are reported accurately. To borrow from Rotary
International, please keep in mind the four way test: 1) is
it the truth, 2) is it fair to all concerned, 3) will it build
goodwill and better friendships and 4) will it be beneficial
to all concerned.
- All tournaments will be governed by USGA and local course
rules with one exception. In the DGA tradition, winter rules
will be played all year. The ball may be moved 6” to improve
your lie, but not your shot (ball cannot be moved out of a hazard
or if within 36” of the base of an unmarked tree). On
the other hand, there will be no gimme puts; hole them out (nothing
like seeing a rich dentist sweat over a two footer worth a sleeve
of titleists).
